Safety and DateGuard

Meeting someone new should feel exciting, not risky. These tools are built into Heartwave from the start.

Photos are checked before others see them

Every new profile photo and video stays hidden from other members until it has passed our safety check. Until then only you can see it, marked “Being checked”.

Photos with nudity, violence or hate symbols are not shown. If one of yours is not approved, the app tells you why so you can choose another.

Report and block in a tap

Use the ⚑ flag on any profile, or the ⋯ menu in a chat. Reports are for inappropriate content, harassment, fake profiles, spam and safety concerns, and they go to our moderation team.

Blocking someone hides you from each other everywhere: Discover, Likes, chats and the Map.

Reports are reviewed by people

Every report goes to our moderation team, who can remove photos and profiles that break our rules. Optional face verification also helps show which profiles are real.

DateGuard: check-ins for your dates

Planning to meet a match? In your chat, open DateGuard and add where and when you are meeting, a note about the area, and the name of someone you trust.

DateGuard sets a check-in time, 3 hours after your date starts. Check in, or tap “I’m safe” when you are home. If you haven’t checked in by then, the plan is flagged as overdue in the app, as a reminder to get in touch with your trusted contact.

DateGuard does not contact anyone for you. Always tell your trusted contact your plans yourself.

Take a break any time

Pause your account and you are hidden from everyone, while your matches and chats stay safe until you come back. You can also delete your account and its data from inside the app.

Tips for meeting safely

  • Talk in the app first. A voice or video call is a good way to check someone is who they say they are, without sharing your number.
  • Meet in a busy public place, and arrange your own way there and home.
  • Tell a friend where you are going and who you are meeting.
  • Never send money or financial details to someone you met online.
  • Trust your instincts. You can leave, unmatch or block at any time.

If you are ever in danger, call your local emergency number (911 in Canada and the United States). Heartwave is not an emergency service.

Heartwave launches on 1 December 2026 on the App Store and Google Play. Join the waitlist for 1 week of Premium free, plus another week when 5 friends join through you.
